If Benjamin noted the outmoded notion of the lack of authenticity of the reproduced artwork, then the idea behind WALTER artist editions isn’t to simply imitate, degrade or to downsize, but to transport the work of art to a new space, new walls, to be seen by new eyes via a new format.
WALTER works in collaboration with a range of artisans and ateliers, each the leaders in their field. With marble from Italy to paper from France and Japan, our sole aim is to provide exceptional products. From screen-printing to the age-old method of lithography, a process undertaken with hand presses, or with the colossal creaking tables of Voirin and Marinoni presses, we produce artist editions that conserve the artisanal aura of the artwork using the highest quality materials. Artists are actively involved in the production process, before signing and numbering each edition, ensuring the solidity of their long-lasting value. The final piece is thus the birth of an intimate collaboration between WALTER and the artist.

With print as our medium of specialisation, we have chosen to produce our lithographs in the oldest prestigious Parisian print house, whose printing presses bore the fruits of work by the greats: Matisse, Picasso, Miró, Braque, Giacometti, and Calder throughout the 20th century; as well as some of the most iconic contemporary artists of today: Paul McCarthy, Daido Moriyama and David Lynch. Each edition produced by WALTER will be inscribed into this illustrious tradition. For ‘the unique value of the “authentic” work of art has its basis in ritual,’ states Benjamin.
